USB XHCI COMPLIANT HOST CONTROLLER WINDOWS 8 UPDATE
Give it a try, see if it works - and i have to agree, it seems the recent update had something to do with it. finally, success!! the device manager no longer shows an exclamation mark. I switched it back to Asmedia (from generic usb/hci). i right click and update driver, but using the steps from auggy's post (above), i went back to device manager and the issue was still highlighted with yellow ! mark. Restart - new scan, usb/hci issue no longer listed in the scan, no further option to update. doing so with multiple driversĪt once might be a less safe way to go even if the tool does create restore points automatically. one by one meaning, click one issue, update it, restart, then proceed. then i went through and one by one, updated some of the other issues the tool found, maybe 3 issues i thought could be related. i clicked update on that, and only that, and i let it run a scan, and one of the items listed was the USB/HCi problem.

Next i downloaded, installed, and registered (via email) the tool linked above, earlier:ĭuring registration you come to a webpage that allows you to activate the free version - giving you a key to open it and use it for free. for me, once i switched from Asmedia over to generic and restarted, i still hadĪn issue (yellow exclamation mark), but now the "device" was listed as "USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller (not Asmedia) even though it still said it "cannot start (Error Code 10)". So right click and try to update your driver, go through above steps and see if it gives you a different option, maybe one for Asmedia instead of generic. If so, can you select the "USB xHCI Complaint Host Controller" > Next and continue with the installationĭo this for each of the Asmedia USB controllers. Is "USB xHCI Complaint Host Controller" listed? With "Show compatible hardware" "checked" what is listed under Model?

Right-click the Asmedia USB Controller > Update Driver Software > Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer In the Device Manager for each Asmedia USB controller can you do the following: I might suggest to try switching to the xHCI controller. first i followed "auggy's" instructions here: but i went to device manager and saw i had the code 10, but in my case it was listed for an Asmedia usb controller. by now i had unplugged the usb3 hd so it could not beĪ direct issue. then again after a restart, 5 minutes, restart. tonight i sat down finally to investigate and within 3 minutes, pc shut down. off / on again, stuck on the log in screen each time i randomly happened by. but the next day, i would keep finding the unattended pc had turned on so i stopped transferring and the pc stayed on. i figured maybe it was corrupt files being transferred that was causing an issue. then over the next hour, as i continued transferring files, withoutĪny timed pattern the pc would shut down and restart.

to my dismay and worry - the pc went through the full windows updating process before coming back on for use. Transferring files from internal hd to external, pc shut down out of nowhere.

two things happened - two days ago (11/6/20) i plugged an external hd (for the first time ever) into the usb3 port on a fairly old ASUS but windows 10 pc, that had about a month's worth of updates pending. I had a similar but not exactly same issue.
